Our Story

DoLittle Farm was born in 2003 in the Central West of NSW. Located on the picturesque property of “Oxenthorpe”, it is owned and operated by Steve & Sarah Leisk. What began as a goal to breed high quality, sustainably produced Frozen Foods for the emerging hobby of keeping pet reptiles, quickly became the largest, systemised production of snake food anywhere in Australia… Mice, Rats, Quail and Rabbits. Demand for DoLittle quality stretched across Australia, with eskies of frozen foods journeying to pet stores, zoos and wildlife rescue right across the country. Today, all good pet stores across Australia carry DoLittle Farm Frozen Foods.

At the same time, Steve kept amodest collection of pet reptiles, enjoying the craft of genetic selection, husbandry and breeding. Hatching of reptile eggs was a highlight on the calendar! With premium quality food now in endless supply for his own reptiles (as well as the rest of the country), a hobby of snake keeping became part of the DoLittle Farm phenomenon. The quality of a DoLittle Farm Pet Reptile is testament to the quality of DoLittle Farm Frozen Foods.

With animal production comes animal waste. Substrate, manure, urine.. Lots of it! Not satisfied with the practice of dumping into landfill, a decision was made to compost the organics waste of DoLittle. It might sound crazy, but because of the regimented, systemized manner of animal production inside the DoLittle facility, the organics waste coming out was consistent, homogeneous and of excellent quality… a perfect compost source. Following AS4454, a new arm to DoLittle Farm emerged, MousePoo Mulch. Today, 92% of all waste from DoLittle Farm is recycled into a garden resource, a practice recognised by local and national awards. The soils of “Oxenthorpe” are called granite sandy loams. We like to call them sandy sandy sandy granite sandy loams – you get the idea! Steve & Sarah didn’t know it at the time, but “Oxenthorpe” cannot be treated the same as farmland in the Riverina or the Liverpool Plains. Many people had tried in the past, but Oxenthorpe’s sand had prevailed….until some MousePoo Mulch was spilled onto it. The introduction of high carbon, nutrient stable, biologically active material awoke the sleeping giant, and cardboard quality grasses quickly turned to lush green pasture. But, there wasn’t enough mice….not enough poo!. So a decision was made to partner with ANL, who specialise in composting organics waste on a very large scale. Each year, approximately 300,000kg of compost is applied to “Oxenthorpe”, commencing a new journey in the paddocks, a journey of Regenerative Agriculture.

At the heart of Regenerative Agriculture is a mindset to nurture the land, not destroy it. To increase its capacity to naturally produce, instead of relying on synthetic fertiliser and chemicals. With compost now powering the pastures of Oxenthorpe, Steve & Sarah went looking for livestock to match. They found it in the emerging breed of sheep called The Australian White. Highly fertile, able to eat almost anything, and easy to care for, along with the most beautiful eating quality imaginable, they were the perfect match for DoLittle Farm. Having a really strong will to live and flourish, the AussieWhites quickly forced us to invest in fencing infrastructure, and like the rest of DoLittle, this became an exercise to systemise quality production. Oxenthorpe is now fenced, mindful of the fragile nature of it’s soil, with access laneways, feedlots for drought times and subdivided paddocks for timed cell grazing. A story of true regeneration. A story of restoration.
