When should I change Food Sizes?

Pythons
  • When you notice that food is relatively easy for your python to swallow, moving to the next size up is advisable.
  • Another method for changing food size is by number of feeds. Check out the DoLittle Farm 'Frozen Rats & Mice' Brochure available free wherever our foods are stocked. Inside, you will find a simple chart designed to help you change food sizes according to number of feeds.
  • If your pythons struggles to eat its food (ie it takes more than 30 minutes to get a rat or mouse down), then going down a food size is advisable.
  • DoLittle Farm is currently undergoing a feed study of Feed weight vs Body weight, and will publish the results when they are ready.
Lizards
With young dragons, it is advisable to limit the size of insects and diced veggies to no bigger than the distance between the eye arches of the lizard when viewed from above. Once sub adult to adult sizes are achieved, feed sizes can be much bigger.

Turtles
Due to their ability to tear and rip apart, the size of food for a turtle is of little consequence. Keeping food to a size that is easily swallowed will reduce waste and tank pollution.

Frogs
Frogs are able to consume large prey, however it is best to follow the same rule as for a young dragon throughout a frog’s life.
